Hello, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend, and if you’re like me, almost sobbed on fifty occasions during Star Wars: The Last Jedi! Intergalactic battles aside, my weekend also featured running and in a surprise turn of events, unexpected animal sightings! Also, heads up, but I managed to take the WORST photos this weekend! All of these photos are so dark and grainy you’d think I was trying to start a grunge Tumblr, but alas I mostly just indoors most of the weekend, and one point I deemed it necessary to take a picture inside of a dark theater? I am a D- blogger, I swear.
I had Friday off from work, but since Jake didn’t, I took the dog to my parent’s house and went to the gym with my dad! I got my first run in since the Run Lights 5k two weeks ago! I could definitely feel that brief hiatus, as a 5k around the track seemed particularly difficult, but it felt good to get back at it! I also did about ten minutes of the StairMaster afterwards, but I stupidly forgot to turn off the “Exercise” mode on my Apple watch when I was done, and it ended up counting 2 1/2 hours of StairMaster time. Is that even possible? I’m pretty sure you would die after a half hour. Oh well. After our trip to the gym, my Dad and I grabbed Subway and Starbucks for breakfast (an egg white sandwich and honey citrus mint tea for me), and then headed back home with the dog to spend the rest of day relaxing and watching movies. I watched the holiday movie on Netflix, Christmas Inheritance, and I don’t think it’ll be winning any awards any time soon, but it was cute nonetheless! Once Jake got home from work, we ordered in wings (I had been thinking about them for two weeks. Help) and watched The Force Awakens to prep for seeing The Last Jedi the next morning!
Jake and I got up a little early so we could hit the gym before our 11:45 am showing of Star Wars, so I logged 4 miles on the elliptical, did a little free weights, and then had a quick breakfast Whole Foods before heading home to clean up. We went to Alamo Drafthouse for the movie, and enjoyed some spicy popcorn, and I ordered a fried chicken sandwich as my lunch during the movie. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the sandwich, and I think of the heaviness of that meal, coupled with the wings the night before wasn’t the kindest thing to do to my digestive system, so lesson learned there! I was near tears for every Carrie Fisher scene, but I really loved it and I was entertained the entire time! I’m excited to see how they’ll conclude it in 2019!
After the movie it grew considerably cold and rainy outside, so Jake and I stayed in doors and watched Netflix for the rest of the evening! We found Twilight: Breaking Dawn on TV and I introduced Jake to the greatest film franchise to mock (I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY THEY USED A CGI BABY! I get that she was growing at a rapid rate, but could they not have just used like an 11 month old, or a small toddler? More importantly, why do I have such strong opinions about this??). I thought we would just like 15 minutes of it, but we ended up watching all of parts one and two, and like you, I too am uncertain as to how I was able to stomach that much lack of chemistry between two people for so long.
I had been craving a long outdoor run for weeks, and finally had a chance to run by the lake with my running group on Sunday morning! It was very chilly outside, and quite wet and foggy due to the previous night’s rain, but it was so wonderful to finally be outside! Apparently so did the local wildlife as I saw two deer around mile four of my run! I feel like to anyone else this might sound dumb, but I live in a pretty suburban area, and the lake I run around is surrounded by homes and people are constantly out and about, so it’s lucky if I even see a rabbit out and about (although I did happen upon a coyote on a run a couple of years ago, which was NOT cute), so seeing a deer was pretty extraordinary! The first one I encountered quickly darted back into the woods, but the second one just stared at me and stood frozen as I got my phone out to snap a quick picture of it.
How cool! I hope it doesn’t mean anything bad that they were out and about, but they seemed healthy and I know you aren’t allowed to hunt around there, so I’m assuming they’re okay. I hope see them again soon (not the coyote though, because duh)! After my wildlife encounter and run, my Dad and I picked up our usual Subway and Starbucks and then headed home. Jake had a haircut around noon in the same area, so he met up at the house and we all went out for lunch to The Black Walnut! I opted for the turkey burger and was once again very impressed. After lunch Jake and I drove back to our place, picked up groceries, and then capped off the evening with homemade enchiladas and A Christmas Story Live!
What is the strangest/most unexpected animal you’ve seen out and about?
