Hello, and happy Monday! I’m coming from a weekend of 5ks, dog hangouts, and a whole lot of salads. Remember when I mentioned Salata last week? Yeah, I went two more times this weekend. Please send help. Or more salads. Whichever is easiest. In the meantime, let’s recap this past weekend!
Friday was the season 2 premiere of Aziz Ansari’s Netflix show, Master of None, so Jake and I spent our evening (till 11 pm!) enjoying that with some take out hot wings. This season was absolutely incredible, and every episode was perfect in my opinion. If you are in the market for a new Netflix binge show, I highly recommened this one. You get a lot of humor, perspective, and outstanding cinematography to boot!
My morning started off early with the Strut Your Mutt 5k in Dallas, but I’ll touch on the later this week! Just know that I saw someone dressed up as the Cheetos mascot (Chester, duh), as well as hundreds of dogs (and two St. Bernards…my favorite!) and it was life affirming. After the race, my Dad and I hit up Vitality Bowls for a breakfast of smoothie bowls and green juice (how Goop of us!), which was then followed by our new weekend ritual of a puppy play date with mine and Jake’s dog, Brinkleigh, and my parent’s dog, Hannah. They don’t necessarily play with each other, as Hannah mostly just tolerates Brinkleigh and request that she stay out of her personal space, but I’m just happy Brinkleigh has a new weekend energy outlet to keep her occupied!
While the dogs maintained an estranged marriage distance away from each other in the backyard, the rest of us hit up Salata for lunch, which is absolute new favorite place to eat! My current go to order is: spring lettuce, carrot slices, cabbage, sprouts, tomatoes, mushrooms, strawberries, and balsamic vinaigrette. It’s a weird combo, but it’s so freakin’ good! Once lunch was inhaled, Jake and I headed over to Trader Joe’s for our week’s groceries, and then back to the apartment to finish up Master of None. The last half of the evening was a fun steak dinner with his parents for a day-before Mother’s Day celebration! Strangely enough, our old high school’s prom was apparently that night, as it was quite populated with a lot of overdressed teens in ball gowns and rented tuxes. I didn’t even know dinner before prom was a thing? I remember our group doing the limo pics and whatnot, but we were stupid enough to wait and eat at the actual event, and not to rag on the Dallas Convention Center, but it’s been eight years and I still remember how terrible the chicken was…and that the DJ played “Rock Lobster”, oh and how the “Best Couple” was awarded to people who had already broken up. LOL, high school.
After a homemade breakfast burritos made by yours truly, Jake and I made trip to the gym, Target, and Salata AGAIN for lunch! I might be developing a bit of a problem here, but if eating a lot salad is the worst of my troubles right now, I’ll happily take the shame and sudden influx of fiber. Once we finished lunch, we had planned on lounging around by the pool, but we soon found that our apartment had locked the gates, so that was quickly shut down. We traded poolside for another puppy date, which also involved an impromptu purchase of NERF Guns and a kiddie pool! My parents never let my sister and I have NERF guns growing up (still lowkey mad about it, TBH), so at nearly 30, of course I was super psyched to finally have my own and play! As for the kiddie pool, my logic is that the dogs would love the kiddie pool to splash around in, but they mostly just would step in, stand around awkwardly, and step out. Oh well, we tried! I’m sure Hannah will get the most use out of it during the week since she spends her time outside with my mom “helping” with the gardening. She’s welcome to the NERF gun too if she likes!
I hope you all had a great weekend! I’ll see you later in the week for a 5k race recap!
Were your parents cool and let you have NERF guns growing up?
