Happy New Years, strangers! I hope your 2018 is off to a great start! After a short blog break, and being the LAZIEST of humans the past of couple weeks, I’m ready to start this new year! I apologize for ghosting all of you during the holidays. My holidays weren’t very busy, and I actually had a whole week off of work, but I just wasn’t in a blogging mood. Truth be told the week of Christmas I was in a bit of funk, but thankfully it was short lived and I’m feeling a lot better! This past weekend I felt like I really had a chance to recharge and psych myself up for the new year, so let’s get to the highlights!
Late last week my sister and brother-in-law, Megan and Jacob, came into town for family Christmas, and we all got together to open presents on Friday evening! My sister and I have joked for years about getting BFF necklaces, so this year I had personalized rose gold necklaces made with our nicknames, Toph (my sister) and Miltay (me), and she loved it! We hung out for a couple of hours before Jake and I headed back home to get some sleep since we had an early morning planned for the next day!
My sister, brother-in-law, Dad, Jake, and the dog all met up with my Dad and I’s local group for a quick jog around the lake. I logged four miles, and for reasons unknown shaved a full 30 seconds or so off of my normal mile time, so maybe 2018 is going to be my PR year? Who knows, but I’ll take it! After our run, we picked up Starbucks for breakfast (Medicine Ball tea + turkey bacon sandwich for me, and I paired it with an avocado and a side of strawberries once I got home). Meg and Jacob had to leave later that day, so we took it easy and stuck around at home and ordered in Torchy’s Tacos for lunch (best guacamole in the area!) and then saw them off around 3 pm.
Jake and I continued with our junk food streak (much to the dismay of my stomach the next day) and ordered in wings for dinner and watched the CNN 90’s docu-series before calling it a night shortly after 9 (I stayed up later than Jake!).
Knowing that our gym was closing early for NYE, Jake and I went ahead and hit the gym first thing in the morning I celebrated the close of one year and beginning of another with 2.17 miles on the treadmill, and 2.18 miles on the elliptical. I pushed myself into another PR time on the treadmill with a 10:40 pace! It’s not much, but its the beginning of something! After the gym, we braved the icy cold weather of 28 degrees and grabbed a hot breakfast at Whole Foods, quickly picked up groceries and then huddled under several blankets upon arriving home! My goal for the day was to once and for finish the Harry Potter series, by Sunday I was about halfway through Deathly Hallows so it seemed feasible. Jake alternated between naps and video games while I basically marathon read the rest of the book.
I took a short book break for a NYE date night with Jake for night of steaks and drinks at Saltgrass Steakhouse! I hardly ever get mixed drinks anymore (normally if we go out I’ll just get a glass of pinot noir), but I figured I’d live a little on NYE and I got a Bulleit whiskey with some blackberry mix. It was pretty good! We hadn’t been on a date night in awhile due to the holiday hustle and bustle, so it was fun to hang out and reflect on the past year. Once we got home I resumed my reading and FINALLY finished around 10:30 pm. Strangely enough, Jake had the Freeform HP marathon going on in the background and I finished the book moments before it cut to the last scene. I feel like I’ve ended an era now that I’ve finished the series! I’m now starting Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, which I’ve been told is awful, so we’ll see how that goes. Did you guys like it? Lemme know!
Jake and I had New Years Day off from work, and we used the day to wrap up chores around the house, which I personally think is the best way to spend the first day of the year! I finished up laundry, washed the bedding, vacuum and dusted, and Jake gave Brinkleigh a bath and cooked our meals for the day! We didn’t make it to the gym, but I’m really happy we had a chance to clean up the place! In between chores I managed to sign up for my second half marathon of the year, but I’ll share more on that with my upcoming resolutions post!
I hope you all had a great weekend, and I’m excited to see what 2018 holds for all of us! Let me know in the comments what you’re excited for this year!
