Hello, and happy Tuesday! This weekend Jake and I made the road trip down to Austin to visit his sister, brother-in-law, and baby niece, and had a lot of fun, and a lot of great food! Also, I decided to leave out Friday in my recap, because I forgot to take pictures, but all Jake and I did was order in Italian food and watch Black Mirror. That’s it. See? It wasn’t even worth that one sentence wasn’t even worth typing!
It was COLD on Saturday morning. Like, wear all of the layers but still feel like an icicle kind of cold. My alarm went off at around 6:15, and I quickly got dressed, ate some PB on toast with some tea, folded a load of clothes, and then was out the door to meet my Dad for the Hotcake Hustle 5k/10k in Addison by 7! I’ll cover the race in a recap later this week, but I was scheduled to run the 10k, and ended up running the 5k because I wanted to be out of the cold as soon as possible! The good news is that I still got my free pancakes at the end, and honestly, that’s the reason I showed up so I left happy.
Pancakes are amazing, but be that only having two is not much of a meal, after our run, my Dad and I grabbed a quick brunch at Modern Market of eggs, toast, potatoes, and tomatoes and a hot tea before my Dad dropped me back off at my apartment. Jake had gone to drop Brinkleigh off at his mom’s, so I vacuumed the place real quick, and then hopped in the shower to get ready. I was out, blow-dried, and had my makeup on within the hour, so we were off and heading southbound on I-35 by noon!
We made a quick pit stop at Buc-ee’s in Temple for a bathroom break and to pick up some snacks since we missed lunch. For anyone unfamiliar, Buc-ee’s is a rest stop that is super popular in Texas, and is known for having super clean bathrooms, and having literally anything you could think of to buy. Need a full size grill? They’ve got it. Deer feed? No problem. A whole cheesecake? Of course! It’s basically the greatest place on earth. I was a little upset that they only had one flavor of hot tea available, but they have literally everything else so I guess I shouldn’t be too upset. After our stop, we powered through the next couple of hours before we finally made it to Austin and Jake’s sister and brother-in-law’s house, Courtney and Ed (plus baby, Charlotte of course)! We visited for a little while before heading out for some Tex-Mex, and I had an awesome blood orange margarita and some crab meat and avocado enchiladas! So so good!
Jake and I got up around 6:30ish and then made our way over to the 24 Hour Fitness that’s closest to his sister’s house (perks of being part of a chain gym!), and I logged 3 miles on the treadmill and then spent 15-20ish minutes working on my shoulders in the free weights area. Once we were at home we quickly got cleaned up, and then enjoyed a fun brunch at Blue Dahlia Bistro together! I ordered the vanilla belgian waffles with a latte, and it was absolutely delicious! I rarely ever ordered waffles, but it sounded like it would pair great with my latte, and it very much did!
After brunch Jake and Ed left to play golf at a nearby country club, and Courtney and I stayed at home and rented Home Again! The movie makes me want to buy a whole new Reese Witherspoon inspired wardrobe so bad (naturally my auto insurance bill would arrive a day later, so that quickly thwarted any online shopping). Once the movie was over, and Charlotte had gotten up from her nap, we met up with the guys for some lunch at the club (saying “the club” makes me think of a nightclub and I laughed out loud imagining all of us trying to eat in the middle of a dance club with a baby) before Jake and I departed for the long drive home! Jake and I listened to my new favorite podcast, The Gilmore Guys, on the way back and I think our hysterical laughter helped keep us awake for the boring night drive back to Irving.
Unfortunately, Jake didn’t have the day off for Martin Luther King Jr Day, so I spent my day solo, but still got a lot done! I got up, made some avocado toast and an iced maca latte, folded a load of clothes whilst watching ER (I am SO pumped that all of the seasons are on Hulu now! #DrGreeneForever), and then headed out for a hot yoga class! I’m a total doof and thought I was going to my normal hot yoga class, but got there and realized I was actually attending “Hot Flow” which include a lot of vinyasa flows and is a lot more fast paced than my normal class. It was brutal, but I ended up really loving it! I’ll definitely attend that class more in the future!
After yoga, I made the dreaded trip to my local Kroger for some weekly essentials. I made the mistake of going around lunch time, and it was packed. I already hate going to the grocery store, and I super hate going by myself, so I was anxious mess the whole time, but I got it done! Does anyone else hate grocery shopping? Maybe it’s just my grocery store, but I always feel so anxious when I go! While it was a pain, I was able to get everything I needed and I picked up a pre-packaged bowl of greens, rice, sweet potatoes, with a creamy garlic sauce for lunch and it was fantastic. I spent the rest of the day cleaning up the apartment, folding clothes, and binging on ER. As I write this I am currently gearing up for a *crosses fingers* potential snow day. Let’s hope by the time this posts there is an extremely delayed white Christmas in North Texas!
Editor’s Note: There was no snow and everything is terrible.
Did you used to watch ER? Can we please talk about Doug and Carol in the comments??
