Long time no see, pals! Remember when I used to blog? Okay so maybe it’s been just a week, but I haven’t taken an absence this long in awhile! You might be asking “Where have you been?” to which I say “Thank you for your concern, reader/Mom.” Last week was the first week after the end of tax week, so work had finally slowed down (which you would think would give me time to blog up a storm, but of course not), but I think the craziness of work, coupled with the weekend before having been my half marathon, I was just burnt the eff out. I was just tired! I wrote my race recap on Monday, and then when it came time to organize my posts for the rest of the week, my brain immediately caught fire and my ideas burnt to a crisp. I figured if I couldn’t take time off work to relax, then I’d take a mini vacation from blogging so I could spend my free time off work to
watch season one of Grace and Frankie just take it easy. Cut to me getting sick on Friday, so the take it easy became less of a well deserved break, and more of a necessity. Oh well, can’t say I didn’t try! Despite catching a cold, I managed to have a pretty fun weekend (partly because I thought I was all better on Saturday. “PSYCHE!” – My immune system), so let’s recap it shall we?
As usual, there is no photographic evidence of my Friday evening, but it was spent with an order of Italian take out and a first time viewing of The Revenant. Y’all that bear attack scene is rough. Can animals be nominated for performances? I mean the bear was probably Andy Serkis in a green unitard, but man was that gruesome. Also heads up, Leonardo DiCaprio has roughly six minutes of dialogue out of a nearly three hour long movie, so if you’re cool with him just grunting and looking like his face just went through a Vitamix then by all means go ahead. I prefer my Leo to be circa 1997 with a blonde bowl cut and just a lanky bag of bones, and he may go through Victoria Secret models like it’s his second job and he’s having trouble paying the bills, but I’ll always love that stupid vape pen enthusiast so I’ll keep seeing his bear attack movies.
I’ll recap more of this tomorrow, but Saturday morning kicked off with a five mile trail race in Fort Worth for the One Ale of A Trail race hosted by Run Project. It was a super fun race, but I gotta save the details for tomorrow’s post so I’ll shut up about it right now! The afternoon was spent lounging around and cleaning up the apartment, and then was capped off with another race with one of my best friends, Stefan, at the Foam Glow 5k!
Stefan and I tend to do a fun run about once a year, and this year we decided on the Foam Glow 5k in Arlington (right by Cowboys Stadium/AKA Jerry World)! I won’t be recapping this one in full detail, because, well, we didn’t finish it. Along with us being fun run enthusiasts, Stefan and I are both people who prefer to be at home and in bed at a reasonable time. We got tot the venue a little before 7 pm so we could pick up the race packet, but the race didn’t start till 8:30 pm, and because of the volume of participants being released in waves, we didn’t cross the start line till a little after 9 pm. Needless to say, we were already tired. We went through a couple of foam stations, but by mile two we both looked at each other and decided to make run for it…to the parking lot and head home. I know I know, how lame, but we just wanted to go to bed! We’ve made plans to never do a fun run that starts in the evening ever again, so I foresee mostly color runs in our future, and quite frankly I am more than okay with that. If anything, I’m just happy I got to hang with my friend and play with bubbles for a few minutes.
Sunday morning I woke up feeling like I probably shouldn’t have been so active the day before and felt my cold return with a vengeance. Knowing that it would be in my best interest to relax and stay in bed most of the day, Jake and I knocked out our Sunday chores pretty early and hit up Trader Joes, with a small detour at Barnes and Noble (forever a sucker for the buy two get one free table), and then headed back home. I mostly stayed in bed and read most of the day, but it was a day well spent!
Another wild weekend in the books for me! I’m glad to be back on the blog, but maybe next tax season I’ll give you all heads up before I disappear underground. I’ll catch you back tomorrow for a new race recap! I hope you all had a weekend, and go take an Airborne so you don’t catch my cold!
