Long time no talk, strangers! As you can tell by the post title and the ghost town that has been my blog for the past couple of weeks, I took an impromptu break from this space, but I’m back! Truth be told, there isn’t really an exciting or scandalous reason as to why I wasn’t posting, I was just a little burnt out! Not to mention my weekends, which I normally reserve for writing out posts, have gotten a little busy with friend dates, a wedding, and a little wedding planning! Of course, there has also been running, but that goes without saying. I wanted to take a mini break from blogging because I felt like I was hitting a wall with post ideas, and the past few weekends I didn’t feel excited or inspired to write. Once it clicked that I wasn’t having any fun, I realized I should probably take a step back, give myself an opportunity to miss blogging and return when I felt that “spark” again (that sounded so dumb I’m sorry). I’ll be back with a race recap next week, but I just wanted to pop in real quick with an update and to let you know that I didn’t die or move to a hippy commune or anything. Until next week though, here’s a brief photo essay/weekend recap from this past weekend, when Jake and I went to Oklahoma for his friend’s wedding!
I was able to leave work around noon, drop off the dog at my parent’s house, grocery shop (lord knows I wasn’t going to want to go when we got back on Sunday), and go to the gym with my Dad for a bit. I was able to log 2 miles on the track, ten minutes on the Stair Stepper, and get in a little arm strengthening on the weights. After cleaning up, I went back to the apartment (our A/C had died the night before, hence why I was taking as much time as my parent’s house as I could), finished up packing, and once Jake was off work we hit the road northbound I-35 to Oklahoma!
Once we arrived in Norman, we dropped off our belongings at the hotel, and met up with the wedding party at a nearby casino! Apparently, Robin Thicke was performing, so it was a little crowded, but thankfully not a madhouse. Jake and I were starving, and unfortunately our only food options were fast food, so I grabbed a small pack of chicken nuggets from Burger King, quickly ate, and then watched Jake play some blackjack and then slots (I won a whopping 20 cents). We decided to call it a night shortly before midnight (I know, I can’t believe I was out that late either), then went back to the hotel to pass out!
For someone who had barely gotten any sleep the previous night, and then went to bed super late the next night, you think I would have been able to sleep in till like noon, but nevertheless, my body thought the perfect time to get up was 7:30 am. I let Jake sleep in a little before my stomach and brain override thoughtfulness and I asked if we could please go downstairs for the continental breakfast. I had some toast, eggs, bacon, a waffle, a banana, and a little yogurt. So yeah, I was starving. Jake had some time to kill before he had leave early for wedding party duties, so watched Juno on TV, and then hit up the oh-so-luxurious gym. The gym had one bike, one elliptical, and one treadmill. However, I was impressed that they had a TV, and a towel and water station! I logged a 5k on the treadmill, and after cleaning up, Jake and I ventured into Norman for lunch at Red Lobster (which we affectionately refer to for no reason at all as “The Lob”) and Target for some last minute wedding necessities (a teasing comb + hairspray for me, and hair clay for Jake).
Jake left shortly after, and I spent the next couple hours getting ready and watching The Hours on TV (Note to self: not a good hype up movie). Since Jake had the car, I Uber’d to the wedding venue (my Uber driver complained the whole time about the drive by the way, and then let it slip that she once drunk drove her cousins home…so yeah…one star) and kind of awkwardly hung out since the only people I knew were in the wedding party. The wedding itself was absolutely beautiful, and there was mac and cheese, so it was A+ in my book!
(No pics due to the day mostly being in the car and napping. Whoops!) After yet another late night, I skipped the hotel gym, and after breakfast, Jake and I immediately booked it home. We picked up the dog, had lunch with my Dad (Torchy’s!), and after arriving home I immediately fell asleep! The rest of our evening was spent binge watching Riverdale and ordering in spicy vegetable pho! Also, our A/C was finally functioning again, so it was nice to not feel like I was trapped in a Bikram yoga studio and feel cool air again!
