Hello again, strangers! I am back from a week long vacation with Jake to Disney World, and I am in a word…exhausted! I’ve got a thousand photos to share with ya’ll, but before I unload that mess into a post (prepare for a lot of Epcot drinking photos), I thought I’d first recap my latest 5k! Jake and I landed Friday night, and I was up early for this race Saturday morning, so I knew going in this race probably wouldn’t be my best, but how could I pass up a chance to run with a bunch of dogs?! My Dad and I first ran this race last year and had a ton of fun, and are super pumped to make this an annual Fall tradition! We wish could bring our dogs with us, but Hannah, my parents dog isn’t very social and doesn’t like crowds, and Brinkleigh, mine and Jake’s dog can be a little to invasive with dogs her size or bigger, so unfortunately they couldn’t attend, but they definitely got the dog goodies that came with our swag bags when we got home!
What I Wore:
- 2017 Disney Halloween T-Shirt
- Compression socks (TBH, unsure where these came from as they were a gift from my Mom, but they are comparable to Pro Compression!)
- Nike Pro Compression shorts (Here)
- Saucony Women’s Grid Cohesion 9 (Here)
- Garmin Forerunner 10 (Here)
- Momentum Jewelry Motivate Wrap (Here)
The course was 2 laps of about 1.5 miles out and around the Frisco library. It took place entirely on road, and thankfully there were zero inclines! Running on the around also allowed for a lot of space between solo runners, and those running with their pups.
How I Felt:
Woof (pun intended). After a week at Disney World, which totaled over 50 miles of walking, my legs were d e a d. Once I hit mile one I could feel everything below the knees start to feel like lead pipes, and the rest of the run was a real struggle. I was able to power through it (it helps to run alongside adorable dogs), but man oh man could I have used a rest day between getting home and running a race! My time came out to be 36:59, but it felt like it took hours to get to the finish line. As you can imagine, I was utilizing the RICE method pretty hard the rest of the weekend.
Everywhere you turned, far and wide, there were dogs…so basically, paradise. There was a post race costume contest for the furry friends, so several dogs were dressed to impress in various outfits. I was unable to take a picture, but there was one dog dressed a banana split, and his parents both donned banana suit costumes. I hope he won!
Do you run with your dog?
