Hello, and happy day-after-Thanksgiving, friends! I hope you had a wonderful holiday, and ate until your elastic waistband busted! Before my family met up to eat everything within a 10 foot radius, me, my dad, and Jake hit up the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot! My dad and I ran the 8 mile course, and Jake ran his very first 5k! It was one of my best Turkey Trot races to date, and the best precursor to a huge holiday meal!
What I Wore:
- Nike full length running tights (Similar)
- Nike Pro Warm Long Sleeve Shirt (Here)
- Brooks Running Hat (Similar)
- Garmin Forerunner 10 (Here)
- Momentum Jewelry Motivate Wrap (Here)
- Leisure Loops Bracelet (Here)
The course was the same as last year. Up until the 5k and 8 mile cut off, the route was entirely flat, but afterwards a small to medium incline was met at every mile. Thankfully, my legs are stronger than they were last year, so I was able to tackle most of the hills! The only downside of the course was the ever present need for road pavement on the Dallas roads. Potholes and crumbled gravel everywhere you look!
How I Felt:
The weather was absolutely amazing! It was 40 degrees when we started, and by the time I finished it had hit around 45! it was just enough chill to keep from overheating! Weather aside, I personally felt great, despite not having run since the previous Saturday. Also, I haven’t run more than 5 miles for the past couple of weeks, so after the 8 miles I could feel some tightness in my hips, but it’s nothing some stretching and an epsom salt bath can’t fix!
There were bounce houses everywhere. I’m not sure why they blew the budget with this attraction, but oh well. There weren’t a ton of booths available, but what they lacked in free food opportunities, they made up with dog attendance, which I find to be much better. We even saw a puppy in a baby bjorn, which I can now confirm was truly life affirming.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
