Hello, and happy Monday! Sorry for the mini blog absence last week! I had intended on finishing up a couple of book review posts, but I was just not in a blogging mood last week. No cause for alarm here or anything, it was just one of those “Ugh, could I just not have any responsibilities?” weeks. Hopefully this week will be less of a drag, and I can get those posts up! In the meantime, let’s recap this weekend because I FINALLY got to try goat yoga, and you know you wanna see those baby goat pics, right?! (Please say yes and keep reading)
I had Friday off as Jake and I had originally planned a weekend trip to Austin, but he wound up starting a new job last week with his first day on Friday, so since our mini trip was put on hold, I kept my free day and had a “Treat Yo Self!” day! Jake didn’t have to leave till mid-morning, so before he left for work I made myself an iced coffee, and we got a head start on season five of Orange is The New Black! Once he left, I started on some laundry, watched some Doctor Who, and then left for a hot yoga class! My yoga studio is next to a juice/smoothie shop, so I picked up a green juice and veggie sandwich for lunch and made my way back home. I figured with Jake being gone for the day, I’d take advantage of it and watch movies I had been meaning to watch that I knew he’d have zero interest in, namely being Manchester By The Sea (Yes, I know and agree that Casey Affleck is a human roach motel, but I was there for the north eastern accents and Michelle Williams), and Chris Gethard’s standup special, Career Suicide (10/10 HIGHLY recommend). An ideal solo day in my opinion!
Remember how last weekend I tried to attend a goat yoga class but got rained out? Well, I finally got to go this weekend, and it was as life affirming as you’d imagine it to be! I was able to book a spot for a 7 am class! My class was held at Nash Farm in Grapevine, which is a local, well, farm, that hosts a lot of events in town! The farm hosts several farm animals, and when I got there I was greeted by turkeys, and sheep! We were invited to lay our yoga mats in a fenced off a square (where I assume where the goats normally hang out), and were each handed a small Dixie cup of feed. There had to have feen about 10 goats in our square, and oh. My. God. were they adorable. They trampled all over our mats, and got in all of our faces pleaded for feed, but once the yoga started, they mostly huddled together and walked around us. The yoga itself was really enjoyable, and the instructor was super nice and laughed along with us anytime the goats broke out in a fight or walked under someone during a downward facing dog. It was so much fun, and I hope they continue doing the classes all summer!
After goat yoga, my mom and I both agreed that were due for some pedicures, so made a trip over to our favorite salon (Castle Nails & Spa in Southlake for anyone in the area who is interested), and then it was back to the house to meet up with Jake for a kettlebell class hosted at The Grapevine Brewery, aptly named Bells and Brews! I hadn’t intended to schedule two workout classes on the same day, but that goat yoga class was the only Saturday available to me this month because of 5ks, and I had signed up for the kettlebell class before I found out about goat yoga. Whoops! The kettlebell class wound up to be a lot of fun, but definitely very challenging as I do not have much of a weight lifting background, but the instructors divided us up between newbies and pros, so I got to learn all of the basics, while Jake worked out with the pro group. After class we were all treated to a free glass of beer, which I enjoyed all the way up until my body was like “Uh yeah, so you’re running on one cold brew coffee, after two workouts, and one beer. No thanks!”, so I wasn’t feeling super great once we got back home, but was able to recover after some lunch and a shower. The rest of our day was spent finishing out season five of OITNB all the way up till midnight (I know. I can’t believe I was up that late too)! Have any of you finished it yet? I really liked it, but after reading reviews on the internet, I guess I’m the odd one out because it seems like a lot of people are disappointed. Let’s discuss in the comments if you’ve started or finished it!
I woke up unbelievably sore from my shoulders down to my knees from our kettlebell class (#wimp), so I knew running wasn’t on the agenda for me, but sitting down for too long only intensified the soreness, so when Jake and I hit up the gym, I decided on just spending my time on the elliptical instead of anything too strenuous. I logged a little over four miles, and tried to be a hero and see if I could do a leg press, but that dream died before I could even lift my knees up to the press. Dang you, Bells & Brews! After our workout, we went to Target to buy a tiny grill (which Jake named Jim??), and the lunch at Which Wich before grocery shopping. Once the chores were done, we went to hang out by the apartment pool, and then Jake left to hit some golf balls at a local driving range, and I stayed back
because golf is the worst to meal prep my lunches and work on the blog. That evening we got to test out Jim (again, not sure why this name was chosen), to grill some steaks, zucchini, and corn! Jim did great, and Jake is officially a mini grill master! I’m crossing my fingers that every Sunday will be grill day!
How was your weekend? I hope it involved goats too!
