Hello, and welcome to the last Friday of August! Much like any other month, I’m not quite sure how we made it from the first to last so quickly, but here we are! August as an adult is still an adjustment for me (3 years out of college…), because mid month I have the instinctive urge to prepare myself for the coming year, buy school supplies, and suddenly become very goal oriented, and much like how I was in school, this inspiration was quickly drained two weeks into class and I was back to watching Law & Order SVU and crying into 12 page syllabus. I’m going to try to reign in this year’s current inspiration boost into the upcoming apartment move, but who knows, I could just wind up in front of SVU again, but this time drying my tears with my student loan auto debit confirmation. I’ll pull it together one of these days. Until then, let’s pretend I know what I’m doing and review some favorites from this week!
- DIY Green Juice
I’ve been on a homemade juice kick for the past couple of weeks, and have been having a lot of fun coming up with different drink combos. This morning before work I bottled a zesty green juice, and it turned out great! Green juice has definitely been a taste I’ve had to grow accustomed to, but now that I’ve learned to
love withstand the bitterness, and find what I like to mix it with, making my own juice has proven to be WAY cheaper and a lot more fun. I mean if you can shell out $7 for half an ounce of drained spinach, than go for it my friend, but $10 for this recipe that can last all week is a win a my book. Here’s what I’ve been using:
- A blender. One day I’ll sell my kidney on the black market for a Vitamix, but not today.
- A handful of mixed greens (pre packaged)
- 4 frozen strawberries
- 1/4 tsp sliced ginger
- 8 oz water
Blend that together, and you’re halfway to becoming any female celebrity photographed walking through LAX. You’re welcome!
- Color Me Drunk
If there is anything you need to know about me, it’s that I am an enthusiastic four year old arts and crafts enthusiast posing as a 25 year old adult. That being said, I love to color, as does my sister, and almost every time we are together we are hitting up Target for some coloring books and crayons. For my birthday present this year my sister gifted me this magical coloring book that is equal parts crayon fun and drinking game. The book combines boozy artwork and ridiculous drinking challenges, two things I didn’t live for until just now, but I am so excited to get to work. Color me drunk, y’all.
- FullyRaw Rose Cacao Body Butter
I don’t splurge on beauty products often (who am I kidding? I do it all the time), but when I do I make sure it smells like chocolate bark and I have remind myself it wasn’t designed for consumption. As a big fan of YouTuber/Blogger/Vegan/Fruit and vegetable super enthusiast, FullyRaw Kristina, I was so excited when I heard she was coming out with her own skin care line that I bought it the day it was available online. As someone who can only summon the will power to be vegan for a record time of thirty minutes, I try my best to at least delegate my vegan practices to skincare, and thankfully this product is 100% vegan, cruelty free, and organic! The ingredients include:
- organic heirloom cacao butter
- extra virgin coconut oil
- organic borage oil
- organic tamanu nut oil
- organic rosehip seed oil
- organic kukui nut oil
- organic avocado oil
- organic macadamia nut oil
- organic sunflower oil
- hazelnut oil
- top grade rose oil
- dark chocolate extract
So, basically, all of the good stuff. It’s designed to be used for almost anything you can think of, but I’ve been using it as a facial moisturizer, and for the ends of my hair. I have only been using it for a week now so I don’t feel as if I can give a truly in depth report, but I will say my skin feels exceptionally soft, and the chocolate scent lingers for an amazingly long time, which I absolutely love. Price wise, I paid $50 for a 100 mL tub, but given that I am using not even a half a dime size amount twice a day for my face and hair, I imagine that this tub will go a long way!
- Mallory’s Book of The Week – Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
In an effort to wrap up my Summer Reading Wish List (I’ve already completed two of the four thank you) I started on Since You’ve Been Gone this week! Adding to my ever growing collection of YA novels the past couple of weeks, Since You’ve Been Gone follows high school aged Emily as she sets off to check out a bucket list created by her mysteriously absent best friend, Sloane. It’s been a slow start, but I finally feel like I’m at a part where it’s beginning to pick up speed and I’m really getting to know the characters. The characters of Emily and Sloane remind me a lot of one my good friends Sara and I when we were in high school, except I’d like to think we were a lot cooler, but that’s open to interpretation (It was cool to watch Best in Show a lot in high school, right?).
That’s it for this week, folks! Tomorrow I’m due for a long run, some relaxation, and then meeting up with my good friend Abby and her boyfriend Ben for a trip to Grapevine Brewery! Sunday is my Grandpa’s birthday, so I’ll probably report back Monday in the midst of a barbecue induced food coma. I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you Monday!
