Happy Groundhog Day! Shout out to that rodent for not seeing his shadow, because I am 100% ready for Spring. This is mostly due to the e-mails I keep getting for my favorite clothing stores about to introduce their Spring line, but yeah comfortable weather would be nice too. With a new season approaching (aggressively crosses fingers), and a brand new month having just begun, I thought I’d wheel out a new bucket list for February! I’m keepin’ it short and simple this month. I’m all for people looking to change their lives at the start of each month, but I don’t have time to completely revamp my life in 29 days, so let’s just stick to the fun and painless goals, cool? Cool. Let’s get started!
- Bake a dessert
I feel like I’m constantly cooking up a Blue Apron creation, or something I found on Pinterest, but I hardly ever bake a dessert. My Grandma gifted me a baking cookbook for Christmas and I have yet to crack it open and get started. I am not the biggest fan of baking. Once when I was kid I offered to bake my family muffins and misread the ingredients for 1/4 tablespoon of salt as 1/4 cup of salt, and the muffins erupted in the oven. I’d chalk it up to being a kid, but I wouldn’t put that mistake my present day self either.
- Spring capsule wardrobe
Okay remember that one time I said I was going to do a Summer capsule wardrobe and then completely forgot? Well, I swear I am going to do it this time. Like, for real, you guys. I mostly just need to make room in my closet, but also my work recently changed the dress code to ultra business casual and we are now allowed to wear jeans every day! Now that the dress is code is more lax, I wanted to sort through my existing wardrobe to weed out what I am no longer wearing, and organize it to fit in more potential work outfits. I’ll be Pinterest-ing some capsule ideas, but please someone harass me about this goal at least once a day so I can actually follow through this month!
- More yoga
I super slacked off on yoga in January, and I really want to settle back into a weekly routine where I am going 2x a week. I made it twice last week, and I am aiming for twice again this week, but it’s been hard (cue the violins) to make it in when my work schedule is changing every week! That’s a weak excuse, but other than “I’m lazy” that’s really all I’ve got. My yoga studio has introduced some new classes this year, so I’ll use that as an incentive to try something new and shake up my routine a bit. I tried their new barre class last week, and it kindly kicked me in the you-know-what. I thought it would be the stretching dynamics of ballet, but I mostly just experienced a downward spiral like Natalie Portman in Black Swan. The idea of the class is to completely exhaust one muscle, and then some light stretching. Repeat for 60 minutes. Yeah, it was rough, but I was stupid sore the next day, so it did something right!
I’ll check back in at the end of the month/beginning of March to see how these goals pan out, but dangit I am sticking to it! Let’s just hope I don’t burn the apartment down in a cataclysmic baking disaster with that first goal, wind up with more clothes in my wardrobe (highly likely tbh), or completely lose my sanity in a barre class. Let’s do this, February!
