Hello and happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend, and are recovering nicely into a brand new week. I return to work tomorrow after a 2 week vacation and I’ve already forgotten what it’s like to have a job so that’ll be a fun transition back into real life. I’m keeping today’s post short so I can resume Christmas evening festivities (I’m writing this Sunday night), but just wanted to share what my Christmas was like this year (Spoiler alert: A LOT better than last year).
My day began at 2:30 am, because I am still six years old and can’t wake up at a decent hour on Christmas. I got up, had a glass of water and took a melatonin, and then went back to sleep. My day began AGAIN at 7:30. Jake was still asleep, so I set up all of the twinkle lights, lit our Christmas candles, and then set up the fireplace show on Netflix (#classy), and then woke him up to open presents!
Jake got me a brand new pair of Saucony’s (Kinvara 6), a yoga mat, and a gift card to Lush (Heads up Lush is doing a big BOGO sale today, so be sure to hit that up)! Parts of Jake’s presents are still in route thanks to a super cool Amazon screw up, but his big gift was a pair of wood paneled headphones (very 70’s), a Doctor Who quote book, a new water bottle, and the Bob’s Burger’s cookbook. We both outdid ourselves this year!
After presents, Jake cooked up a breakfast (eggs on toast + turkey bacon for me), and we lounged around until it was time to head up to Grandma’s.
Once we got to Grandma’s we feasted on pork roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, and heaps of divinity. I was nervous that we would all have a bad time under the circumstances, but we spent most of the afternoon laughing, looking at pictures, but mostly just eating.
We made a quick detour on the way home to visit my Grandparent’s old farm. It’s now overrun with weeds and grass, but you can still see the house from afar and since my Grampa has passed my mom has left ribbons on their gate for special occasions. She left a gold ribbon for him for Christmas, and I snapped a quick photo of my bracelet that has the farm’s address engraved on the inside. Maybe one day I can pull an Amy Schumer and buy the farm back (#loftygoals)!
Once Jake and I got back home, I laced up my new Saucony’s and went for a quick 2.5 mile run while he stayed back to walk the dog.
It was outrageously humid out, and I can’t believe I was wearing shorts and sweating profusely, but it’s Texas so I guess I really shouldn’t be too surprised. Four years ago it snowed, last year it was kind of cold, and this year it was Florida. Anything goes!
After my run, I cleaned up and then popped in a Father Christmas bath bomb from Lush (the theme of this post is my Lush problem). It smelt very sweet (in a good way, not in a sickly “Is this straight sugar??” way), but I was kind of let down by the color. It dissolved into a swampy blue green. The bath water wasn’t worth the photo, so here’s Santa before the melted disaster occurred.
The rest of the evening was spent with steaks (seasoned with habanero salt gifted to me by my sister. It was a revelation.) and movies. I’m so happy I got to have a low key day with my family and Jake, and manage to squeeze in a quick run too! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend, and spent it exactly the way you wanted to!
