Hello, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was full of a lot of dog walking, and in a dramatic twist, a giant purge of clothes! More on that a little later…
(In classic Mallory fashion, I took zero photos of my Friday, but I did take this obnoxious Instagram video of Brinkleigh. Please enjoy the above link.) I kicked off the weekend by getting from work and then taking Brinkleigh for a quick 1.5-mile walk before the rain came through, and then Jake and I settled into the evening with a Hello Fresh meal of chicken tacos and watching TV. We tried starting “Waco“, a mini-series about David Karesh and the siege of the Branch Davidian compound, but the first episode was pretty boring, and in my opinion, I thought it was written pretty poorly. I got a strong vibe that we were supposed to “feel” for David, and that he wasn’t such a bad guy, which was really off-putting. I might give the next episode a try to just to see if maybe it’s just a weak first episode, but we’ll see.
I woke up a few hours before Jake, so I enjoyed a book and a cup of tea on the couch cuddled up next to a sleepy Brinkleigh. When she got bored of me and wanted off the couch, I got up as well and did a few loads of laundry. Once Jake got up, he was kind enough to grab some Starbucks and Panera breakfast sandwiches and enjoyed those whilst watching Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone.
After eating, we packed up Brinkleigh and took her to a local park for a 2.5-mile walk. She quite enjoyed herself, but we were a bit chilly since it was cloudy and overcast the whole time! Upon getting home she immediately fell asleep, and Jake left to go enjoy some golf at the driving range. While they did their thing, I got started on my big weekend project, closet makeover!
Okay, maybe not so much a “makeover” as I finally buckled down and sorted through clothes to donate versus keep, and organized the remainder. The past year or so, I have gotten so unbelievably bad at putting my clothes away and keeping my closet tidy. I pride myself on being an organized person, but holy moly did I let my closet go by the wayside! Earlier in the week, I decided that enough was enough, so I Amazon ordered six collapsible storage boxes, and a set of undergarment and sock organizers that fit inside dresser drawers, and they have made all the difference! Once Winter is over, I think I’ll consolidate my closet to more of a capsule wardrobe, but as of now I’m loving having just the pieces I need, and I am especially ecstatic over having my workout clothes be more accessible and organized! I consolidated the following into individual boxes: black workout leggings, colorful workout leggings, short sleeve workout t-shirts, long sleeve workout t-shirts, sports bras + compression socks, and then a box of maxi dresses I’ll take out once Summer is here!
It took me a couple of hours to complete the closet “reno” so afterward, I was pretty beat. I took a break to eat a quick Subway lunch and watched more Harry Potter with Jake. After a while, I finally found a resurgence of energy, so Jake and I went to the gym for an evening workout. I logged 3.5 miles on the elliptical, and then a few minutes of arm strengthening with some free weights. We were both starving by the time we were done, so we grabbed some McAlister’s (yikes, I’m just now realizing we ate out for every meal that day. *insert clenched jaw emoji here*), and then called it an early night shortly thereafter.
I woke up bright and early for the Too Cold to Hold 5k and threw together a quick pre-race meal of peanut butter on toast with banana slices, and a cup of tea. I’ll recap the race later this week, but for now, I will say it was a lot of fun, and the weather absolutely wonderful with a slight chill and lots of sunshine! The only downside was that my stupid Garmin watch died RIGHT before the race started, despite it being fully charged. I’ve been having a lot of issues with that watch lately, which is rather disappointing given that I’ve only had it for a year. I may need to pour over some message boards soon and see if this a system-wide thing or if my specific watch is defunct.
After the race we grabbed brunch at Modern Market, and be that a Trader Joe’s was right across the street, my Dad was nice enough to accompany me while I went ahead and grabbed my groceries for the week. I’m glad we went when we did because it was hardly crowded at all and we were in and out of there in less than 20 minutes!
Upon getting home, Jake and I did a few quick apartment chores of putting away dishes, vacuuming, and tidying up the bedroom, and then packed up Brinkleigh to drop her off at my parent’s house so she could run and play, and Jake and I could go enjoy our afternoons doing what we loved most, he went and played golf, and I went and got my nails done! I was a little disappointed to find that my go-to nail salon (shout out to TK Nails on Mustang!) was closed on Sundays, so I switched it up and went to a salon I used a frequent a few years ago that is now under different management. They did a wonderful job, and the staff was absolutely lovely, but their prices are a little higher, so I think I’m gonna stick with TK (and remember to go on Saturdays for sure). Fresh nails in tow, I met back up with Jake to watch him finish up golf while I listened to my current favorite podcast, The Gilmore Guys. No joke, I started this podcast two weeks ago and I am now forty episodes deep. Also, I have cried laughing at almost every single episode. I don’t know what I am going to do when I finish it!
Jake eventually wrapped up at the driving range, so we grabbed a take out lunch from Cafe Express (I was put on earth for their California Turkey Burger, I swear), grabbed Brink, and then made our way back home for an afternoon of meal prepping, movies, and taking it easy!
