Hello and happy Friday! I just drank an iced coffee and on a scale of one to Gary Busey talking about Amazon Fire, I am currently at an eight. Lately I’ve been reserving coffee for Fridays and weekends because it makes me a little too “live” and I end up jittery and anxious throughout the work day, so hopefully today I can just be caffeinated and awake rather than being hyper aware of my skeletal system. Coffee nightmares aside, I am quite excited for the weekend. Today is my mom’s birthday (Happy Birthday Mom!), tomorrow morning my dad and I will be running the Melon Dash 5k in McKinney, and then Sunday is my Dad’s birthday (Happy future Birthday Dad!). I think Saturday Jake and I will also be touring the apartment complex that we are interested in, so hopefully that goes well! I’ll recap you all on Monday with the birthday festivities, and (wishful thinking) a positive review of the apartment tour, but in the meantime, let’s recap some favorites from this week!
This is more of a throwback favorite, but this week I have been rewatching Daria on Hulu, and rediscovering my love for my favorite monotone and indifferent female icon. While I didn’t watch Daria while it was on the air (my sister and I weren’t allowed to watch MTV as kids. womp womp womp), I did start watching it in middle school when Teen Nick (formally known as The N, or if we’re dialing it way back, Noggin) started playing repeats as part of their Friday night lineup. I’d like to think Daria shaped me in my formative years into the “dead inside” social justice advocate that I am today, but I think it’s fair to say that judging by how much of a product junkie I am, there is definitely some elements of Quinn (*shudders*) in my personality. After re-watching the episodes I am discovering that my new favorite character, and probably the most underrated is Tiffany.
Tiffany easily has the best one liners, and the shining light of the Lawndale Fashion Club. I wish she had been granted a spin-off where she just painfully dead pan delivers nonsense to Quinn, Sandy, and Stacy. MTV, this is your chance!
- Trader Joe’s Super Spinach Salad
I picked this up on Sunday to eat for a quick lunch at work on Monday, and oh man was it delicious! The carrot ginger miso dressing was an unexpected delight, and while I normally am not a fan of edamame, it complimented wonderfully with the other ingredients in the salad. If you happen upon this at your Trader Joe’s I highly recommend it! Surprisingly enough for a small salad, it was quite filling, and it did the job for the mere 15 minutes I had at lunch on Monday (can confirm that 15 minutes for lunch is the worst)!
- Positive Affirmations from Lisa Frank
If you aren’t following the Lisa Frank fan page on Facebook, then you need to really rethink your priorities. Almost daily they post the cutest motivational messages, and while yes it may ridiculous to be 25 years old and loving this, sometimes we all just a pick-me-up, and my girl LF always delivers.
- Mallory”s Book of The Week – Life on The Ramona Coaster by Ramona Singer
I already touched on this earlier this week in my Summer Reading Wish List post, but let it be known that Ramona Singer is my RHONY alter ego and I’ll buy whatever she’s selling (usually Pino). I am starting the book tonight and I know it may be a bit ambitious to go ahead and list it as a favorite, but I feel like this book is going to great insight into her life, and hopefully a bunch of misfit adventures involving her and Sonja. Or it could 200 pages on why Mario is the worst (spoiler alert: He is), but I’m prepared for either journey.
That’s all for this week! I hope you all have an awesome weekend, I’ll catch you on Monday. I’m gonna go drink 1000 cups of chamomile tea so I come down off of this coffee now…
