Winter hasn’t really swung in full force yet here in North Texas, but for reasons unknown, my skin is sure acting like it has and has been quite dry and dull lately! Knowing full well that I wasn’t about to drop $$$ on a scrub that could potentially break me out (high end or drugstore scrubs never work well with me for some reason), I thought I’d whip up something on my own using ingredients I already had in the pantry and see if it did the trick, and did the trick it did! Piggybacking off of the winter hair mask recipe I love so much, I used similar ingredients, and then found my new holy grail exfoliator, coconut sugar! I’ve used regular sugar plenty of times in the past, but after trying out coconut sugar, I’ve found that it’s much more of a deeper scrub (think like St. Ives Apricot scrub, but not as harsh), and my skin felt super soft afterward! Here’s what I used:
- 1 teaspoon of coconut sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon amount of coconut oil
- A drizzle of honey
Compile your ingredients, and microwave for 5-10 seconds. Mix with a spoon, and as long as it isn’t too hot, apply it to your skin and let sit for a couple of minutes before scrubbing off! Letting it sit will allow the honey and coconut oil to act as a hydrating mask, and then once you begin scrubbing it off, the coconut sugar will assist with exfoliating. Once I have rinsed off the srub, I’ll use my regular facial cleanser a couple of times afterward to ensure that I do not have any lingering oil or honey on my face, and then continue with my normal skincare routine! I normally do this scrub once a week for my face, and if I need a full body exfoliator, I’ll ditch the honey and then use a large amount of coconut sugar and coconut oil for my arms and legs, and it works great!
