Happy Monday, and welcome to the first race recap of 2017! This past Saturday my Dad and I ran the Hotcake Hustle 5k/10k (He did the 5k, and I did the 10k) for the fourth year in a row! I got to try out my new Garmin for the first time, and race in my new Saucony’s Jake got me for Christmas! Most importantly though was the reason for the race. Pancakes. Nothing is more important than pancakes. Well, maybe waffles, but until I find a waffle race pancakes are going to hold precedence.

This road course is the 5k route looped twice, which means running up and over a bridge a total of four times. Despite the repetitive hill challenge, the rest of the route is flat, and spacious enough to accommodate a lot of participants! But yeah that bridge sucks.
Aside from the bridge, I felt great! I met my 1 hour 5 mile goal that I achieved on the treadmill last week, which ended up in a 10k PR of 1:15 for me! My last mile was a little slow because once I hit my 5 mile goal and it was right before the last big incline, I took a short walk break. I’m excited to see what my next 10k time will look like without bridge inclines!
Free pancakes! My Dad and I waited in a short line for our pancakes, but after wolfing those down we didn’t spend much time sticking around. On our way to the race we passed a really cute shop called “Mad Hatter Baker“, so we instead walked over and treated ourselves to some croissants and tea! If you’re ever in Addison I highly recommend it. They have the cutest set up, and they even serve dog treats!
Not too bad for the first race of the year! I’ve got a 5k lined up for next weekend, so let’s see if I can PR that one too!
