Hello, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was pretty good despite an unexpected slight cold! It was another warm weather weekend here in North Texas, so naturally I would get a cold when it’s nearly 80 degrees in winter. I was a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to log a long run, but hey there’s always time for that next weekend! While I daydream about chilly temps and running without breaking a sweat, let me recap this weekend for you all!
I can’t tell you the last time I had a race on a weeknight (does Friday count as weeknight??), but Friday evening my dad and I met up for the Run the Lights 5k in Farmers Branch and such a fun time! I’ll provide a race recap later this week with more pics and details, but essentially the race wove through a neighborhood park that was lit with colorful Christmas lights, and several runners came decked in holiday costumes! I really wish there more holiday themed/Christmas lights related runs this season! I suppose I could just run through a neighborhood at night, but ya know…#safety. Oooh, could someone give me the gate code to a ritzy neighborhood in Highland Park so I could run through there?? They have the best lights, and on site security so that would be a win-win!
I woke up Saturday morning with a sore throat was generally achey, so that quickly nixed any plans for an outdoor run, or really any run for that matter. Strangely enough, my sore throat dissipated a couple of hours later, so I thought I was in the clear (spoiler alert: I wasn’t), and went about my day with Jake! We popped into Whole Foods for a hot bar breakfast and juice (I ordered their “Cold Blaster” juice and was really impressed!), and then a little while later we went to gym (I thought I was fine!) and I logged a few miles on the elliptical before concluding with some squats.
Upon getting home, I put a Nexxus hair mask sample I had been meaning to try, and proceeded to deep clean the apartment from top to bottom. Jake vacuumed and dusted the ceiling fan (#tallpeoplejobs), and I tackled scrubbing down the bathroom and running the bedding through the washer and dryer. I eventually cleaned up and then it was time for my best friend Lindsey to come over for a wine and Hallmark Christmas movie night! I had jokingly ordered us matching monogram shirts (which came out to be super cute!) to wear for our night in, and made the night even more cheesy by drinking our wine from Santa and penguin coffee mugs. We hung out and made fun of the movies (primarily “The Sweetest Christmas” starring Lacey Chabert. All of the men in this movie were AWFUL and one guy gave off “I should be playing the bad guy on SVU” vibes the whole time) for a few hours before she left to go home around 11 pm. I am not much of a night owl, so I didn’t stay up much later after that and passed out probably not even twenty minutes later!
Much like Saturday, I woke up again with a sore throat, but this time it went away almost immediately after a hot cup of tea. At this point I think my cold is just existing while I sleep. I’m not sure what game my immune system is playing at. Be that I felt okay again, Jake and I again picked up breakfast (this time from Panera) and we swung by Starbucks and I decided to try out one of their secret menu items the “Medicine Ball”, and was pretty impressed! I’m normally too scared to order secret menu items because I assume that with my luck the barista will be like “Uh, what?” and then everyone in line gets mad at me for taking much too time to explain it, and yeah my inner dialogue is really helpful. Thankfully the barista knew the drink and I didn’t cause any problems! From what I’ve been told, the Medicine Ball should (I think it can vary depending upon barista) consist of: steamed lemonade and water, one bag of Jade Citrus Mint Tea, one bag of Peach Tranquility, one packet of honey, and an optional pump of mint syrup. I don’t think mine had the mint syrup, but to me the first few sips just tasted like pure peach syrup and I wasn’t a fan. However, once I swirled it around a little it seemed to settle into a sour mint tea that was quite pleasant. I’d really recommend it if you are feeling under the weather!
After our breakfast, we loaded the dog in the car and ventured out to Coppell for a nature trail walk! We probably only logged only a little over a mile, but Brinkleigh had a lot of fun, and it felt nice to be out in the sun as well! After our little excursion, Jake and I completed our normal Sunday afternoon activities of gym (another few miles on the elliptical plus some ab work) and groceries. By the time we were done it was nearly 2 pm and we were starving, so we decided on the nearest thing closest to us, as well as something we had never tried before, Sushi Yaa, and picked up a to go order of sushi and noodles. I can’t say it was a life changing lunch, but I would definitely go back! They did have a Hot Cheeto crusted sushi roll that I will definitely have to try next time, which probably have to be followed by tablets of Tums, but I’m sure it will be worth it!
The rest of our evening was parked on the couch and not doing much else besides enjoying a lazy day! We have a busy week ahead, but thankfully no plans this upcoming weekend so hopefully my sore throat will get over itself and I can get back outside for a run!
What is your favorite cheesy holiday movie?
