I am super late on getting this up, but here’s my recap for the Hot Chocolate 15k my Dad and I ran a couple of weeks ago! It was our 5th year running it (3rd year doing the 15k route), and they gifted us some really cool “legacy” gifts this year! Part of our swag bag included an attachment to our race bib that said we were legacy runners, as well as an additional medal, AND a super cool beanie! I love how much effort they put into their races each year, and the legacy bit was so cute and made us feel so special! I can’t wait until we hit the 10-year mark to see what we get!
What I Wore:
- Nike full length running tights (Similar)
- Run Project hoodie
- Nike Pro Warm Long Sleeve Shirt (Here)
- Apple Watch (My Garmin died!)
- Saucony Women’s Grid Cohesion 9 (Here)
- Race bib belt (Here)
- Calia Headband (Similar)
The 15k course map was the same as last year’s, which had us going through an adjacent neighborhood to Fair Park in Dallas, and briefly through a ritzy residential area! It took place entirely on road (so far Dallas road quality, it might as well be trail), and was extremely accommodating to the thousands of race participants sharing the streets (much thanks to their corral system).
How I Felt:
I felt pretty great! I ended up taking my hoodie off shortly before mile two, and then ultimately put it back on around mile eight. I stupidly ended the workout mode on my watch when I first took off my sweater, so that was a bit frustrating but other than that I had a really great time!
The best part of the whole thing! We were met immediately with medals, water bottles, and Nuun electrolyte tablets, and then immediately got in line to receive our hot chocolate drinks and snacks! My dad and I quickly wolfed down the snacks and hot chocolate (I opted to dunk the banana into the melted chocolate and it was SO good) and then walked around a bit to take a few pictures of the inflatable decorations they bring out each year. They also had a DJ that was strictly playing Mariah Carey remixes, and now I need his name so I can book him for my wedding.
