Hello, and happy Monday! As you may have gathered by today’s post title, I got a whole lotta nothing done this weekend thanks to a garbage antihistamine that did nothing for my allergies (totally not bitter). It was an impromptu lazy weekend, and I hope next weekend I am able to get more done, and by more I mean miles because I didn’t run at all this weekend! I’m now prepared for the following week with eye drops, nasal spray, and a ton of tissues, so here’s hoping next weekend’s recap isn’t as boring as this one!
After work, I drove over to my nearest Michael’s Crafts (or #tbt MJDesigns) to pick up a few supplies to craft my sign for the Women’s March the next day, and thankfully was in and out in under five minutes! Once I was home I hurriedly took out the trash and walked Brinkleigh a little so she could do her “business”, and then once Jake was home we were out the door and on our way to Carrolton to my favorite restaurant, Babe’s Chicken Dinner house! I feel like we normally go for just special occasions, but on Friday we were just really feeling fried chicken so that was just a celebration within in itself. I plowed my way through some fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and biscuits, and 1000% by the end of the meal. Many a Tums were had upon arriving home.
I woke up around 5:30 am to a very swollen right eye (thankfully, nothing near as bad as that one eye infection I had last year), and my nose was unbelievably dry. Assuming that it was allergies, I popped a Benadryl and then laid on the couch with a warm compress on my eye until Jake woke up. Thankfully the swelling went down a bit, but the Benadryl hit me hard and I felt like I could have gone back to bed within the hour. I made myself an iced coffee to counteract it (in retrospect I don’t think coffee can beat an antihistamine, but oh well), and got ready for the Women’s March!
Jake and I picked up his mom and then made our way over to the Fort Worth Tarrant County Courthouse, and gathered with several others for a thirty-minute rally, and then we were off to the streets for the march! I’ll include more photos in a later post, but to quickly recap the march was a lot of fun and really empowering. It was so wonderful to see so many women, men, and children gather for such a great cause and belief! Upon getting home and cleaning up, I finally succumbed to my Benadryl induced drowsiness and fell asleep for almost two hours. It was one of the naps where you get up and feel worse and wildly unrefreshed, so the rest of the evening I felt like I was in a fog and completely exhausted. Needless to say, I think I am switching Zyrtec for all of my allergy-related ailments going forward…
My allergies managed to get the best of me before my day even started when I was startled awake shortly after midnight with what felt like a never-ending nosebleed. I get nosebleeds all the time, but my nose was so unbelievably dry that all of my usual tricks to stop it wouldn’t work. Eventually, the madness finally stopped and I was able to go back to sleep, but that interruption coupled with my drowsiness during the day, I awoke Sunday feeling completely exhausted. I had to cancel on my dad to meet up for a run, which I felt really bad about, but thankfully I was able to score three extra hours of sleep after I texted him at 5:30 that I wasn’t going to make it for our run. We took it easy in the morning, and Jake kindly made me a breakfast of eggs, turkey bacon, and mixed fruit, and we finally took down our Christmas decorations whilst watching The Godfather Part I (they’re all on Netflix now!!!).
After vacuuming and dusting, we packed up the dog to drop her off at my parents for some outside playtime, and Jake and I went to the gym! I logged four miles on the elliptical, and then 10 minutes on the stair stepper for a total hour of cardio. I was feeling pretty tired afterward, so after getting home and cleaning up, I spent the rest of the day on the couch. I’m not certain if I was still feeling something strange from the prior day’s Benadryl, or if it was because of my bad night’s sleep, but I was just head-to-toe exhausted and didn’t have it in me to do anything for the rest of the day, with the exception of whipping up some meal prepped lunches for the week. I feel bad that I didn’t have the energy for a run this weekend, but hopefully, I can make up my miles this week!
