Hello, and happy Monday! I’m checking in today with a usual weekend recap, all the while feeling super off since having Thanksgiving day off really messed with my brain and the rhythm of my weekend! Is anyone else like that when they get a week day off? I felt like my Saturday was Sunday and my Sunday was Saturday, and now I feel like Willy Wonka yelling about the snozzberry wallpaper. Anyways, before I ramble into oblivion, how I about I share this past weekend’s activities? Cool? Cool.
I was able to get off work early, so I did what any responsible adult would do with extra time on their hands, I changed into leggings and a t-shirt and promptly took a nap on the couch in front of a Freeform Harry Potter marathon! I think I was so exhausted with how busy Thanksgiving had been, coupled with working the following day, that I just immediately collapsed upon getting home. Once Jake got home we ordered in a pizza, and then set up our Christmas decorations! Jake put the tree together, and hung white string lights in the kitchen, and I decorated the tree and placed little themed knick-knacks around the apartment (so in short, the easy stuff). The decorations definitely eat up most of our space, but it’s festive and adorable so I’m okay with bumping into the coffee table a little more often as a result.
I skipped my normal Saturday long run and enjoyed a lazy morning of reading until Jake woke up, and then we happened upon Music & Lyrics on TV, so I definitely couldn’t start my day until I sat through the entirety of that movie. We finally got going a little while later, ran a few errands, popped into Whole Foods for breakfast, did a little post Thanksgiving shopping (2 pairs of workout leggings, a cold weather running headband, and then some candles from Bath & Body Works), and then concluded our afternoon out with a trip to the gym. I was anticipating a long run the next day, so I opted for a few miles on the elliptical rather than the treadmill, and then did some strength training with Jake.
The rest of our evening involved Jake cleaning up his closet, and me watching a true crime docuseries I found on Netflix called “The Confession Tapes” from start to finish. I really enjoy true crime shows/podcasts/books/(and shamefully) AskReddit related threads, and this show was right up my alley. It’s a seven episode series that explores six different crimes and the suspects who were coerced into their confessions. I found the first two episodes especially enthralling and creepy, and I immediately texted my dad, my sister, and my best friend telling them to watch it so I could talk about it with somebody! If you’ve seen it, let’s discuss in the comments!
My alarm went off at 5:30 am, and I was out the door in twenty minutes to meet up at my parent’s house for a long run with my dad and our running group! I was secretly hoping for nine miles, but I stupidly decided to put on full length compression socks before I left (compression socks are sometimes a hit or miss with me), and it ended up making my legs feel so heavy, and as if I was treading through molasses the entire run, so I only ended up with a little over eight miles. I really wish I could be a compression sock runner! Namely (and embarrassingly) because they come in a lot of fun colors and themes, but I guess they’re just not for me and that’s okay! I’ll still use them as means of post run recovery, so thankfully I will still have a use for them now that I’ve retired them as a means of wearing during my runs.
After our run, my dad and I picked up our usual of Subway breakfast sandwiches and Starbucks, and then since I had brought Brinkleigh with me to the house, we took both her and my parent’s dog, Hannah, for a two mile walk! Brinkleigh is well, to put it politely, the worst when we go on walks. I love her to death, but good lord that dog really tests my patience when we are in public. She has to kept on a extremely short leash or she’ll growl and try to lunge at other dogs, not mention her natural gait is a Meb Keflezighi marathon pace, so I’m constantly struggling to keep up with her. She behaves extremely well around Hannah, albeit if she is a lot more hyper than her, but she respects that Hannah does not always want to play, so I’m confused as to why she is so weird around other dogs! If any of you out there have any tips or tricks, or things I could do to help her I would absolutely appreciate it, because I currently feel like I need to be an episode of Maury titled “My Dog Child is Out of Control!!!!”
Upon getting home I finally found a moment to clean up, and then Jake swung by so we could all go to lunch and then do some quick grocery shopping. We visited our new favorite spot, The Black Walnut, and I enjoyed a really delicious interpretation of a turkey club on an eggs benedict! I then headed back to the apartment with Brinkleigh, and Jake went to go play a round of golf before we met up for a fun dinner with his parents! After which we closed out our evening with some meal prepping and Netflix! I took a break from true crime and we enjoyed some Toast of London (highly recommend if you are fan of The IT Crowd and/or Matt Berry) before going to bed!
That wraps up my weekend! I’m looking forward to a very Christmas-y week ahead as on Tuesday Jake and I are going to a Christmas lights show with his work friends, and on Friday night I am running a Christmas lights themed 5k with my dad! I hope you all had a great weekend, and enjoy a wonderful week ahead!
