So, remember the other day when I mentioned that I had an “allergy attack”, but then said I found it wasn’t? Yeah, turns out this was a mystery a few Benadryl could not fix, a toddler in a candy store level meltdown, and an anxious trip to a couple of doctors is what I needed (okay, maybe not the meltdown)! Let’s rewind it back to Monday so you can get the full story…
Monday morning before work I was getting ready to do my makeup when out of nowhere my eyes became incredibly watery and irritated. Had anyone walked in on me they would have assumed that I just found out 1/2 Price Wing Night at Buffalo Wild Wings was being discontinued. The tears fell fast, and my face became red and blotchy as a result. The feeling lasted about 2 or 3 minutes, and I was able to put on my makeup without any trouble (thought not enough to the cover the “I obviously just cried” look), so I popped a Zyrtec and hoped for the best. Throughout the day the vision in my left eye became increasingly more cloudy, and my vision looked like I a flashback scene from the Saved By The Bell. The edges were blurry, but sadly there was no Zack Morris and brick cellphone to be found. I again just chalked it up to allergies, and took a Benadryl. Cut to an hour or so when I was off work and at home, and my eye had become bloodshot, experiencing sharp pain, and by 6 pm I could no longer keep my eye open. Thinking that this point that maybe I was having a reaction to makeup, or some sort of unknown allergen, I took a hot shower and washed my hair, but alas the irritation continued. Jake was kind enough to pick up Chipotle for dinner (normally their guacamole fixes all of my problems), and while it was delicious, it didn’t help much, plus I looked like stone cold idiot trying to eat with my eyes closed.
I eventually tried going to bed, but the irritation intensified, which in turn took my anxiety from zero to a hundred real quick (#Drake), and I became an emotional mess. In retrospect, I’m sure my hysterical crying did not help the situation, nor me telling Jake that I was going blind (I am only a touch dramatic at times), but I guess my meltdown eventually exhausted me enough to where I could finally fall asleep. Strangely enough, I had no trouble sleeping, and when I woke up most of the pain had subsided. I still couldn’t open my eye though, so with that I embarrassingly called out of work, and then scheduled a doctor’s appointment. My mom was kind enough to shuttle me around since driving was out of the question for me, but sadly my general doctor couldn’t find anything wrong, so they suggested I see an ophthalmologist right away. Against all odds (again with the drama), the ophthalmologist was able to see within minutes of checking in, and it was there that she informed me that apparently I have “stress related dry patches” (gross?) on my cornea, and the frequent exposure to UV sunlight (I had spent the weekend outdoors running), was possibly causing the flareups. The worst news of the day was that I would have to put contacts aside for a week and only wear my glasses, but thankfully whatever was going on with me is common and treatable. Oh wait I lied, that wasn’t the worst part. My prescriptions (even with insurance at the generic level) totaled to be about $250. Cool! Also, I have to take 15 drops a day. Super cool! Sarcasm aside, I am very thankfully it wasn’t anything very serious, and that hopefully this will be a non-issue by next week! Until then though, I may have to forgo running for the rest of the week, and stay indoors to avoid sunlight (lol not hard). That being said, expect a potentially very boring weekend recap from me next week!
I hope you all have a great weekend, and for the love of god take care of your eyes!
