Hello, and happy Monday! I am currently hobbling around like a baby giraffe (not April’s though because it still isn’t here!), due to yesterday’s half marathon, but I’m alive and well! Yesterday my dad and I ran the Rock & Roll Dallas Half Marathon, it was my fourth time (sixth counting all half marathons), and my Dad’s first time running the race! My Dad did great, finishing at 2:18, and I, well we’ll get to that, but it wasn’t as great. That’s okay, I’ll be trying again for a virtual half marathon next month, but until then, let’s get to the recap goods!

Thankfully, for the most part, the course was completely flat! There was one major hill shortly after mile 8, and any other incline encountered was significantly less challenging. We ran through Dealey Plaza (I stepped on the “X” again!), crossed the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, and toured through the hip pockets of downtown Dallas!
How I Felt:
I felt absolutely great from miles one through six, so much so that when I hit the five mile marker, I thought “Wow, I may like super PR this.” However, around mile seven, the cloud cover dissipated, and it was from a tolerable level of humid, to something a little too intense for me and I began to feel myself losing steam (probably because it was coming off of me). By the time I had finished the race, I had stopped at three separate water stations to refill my handheld water bottle. It was so frustrating because muscle wise I felt totally fine, but I was just so overheated that I couldn’t give it my all. I’m a little disappointed in myself, because I was really hoping to hit 2:45 or better, but I guess this unseasonably warm weather had other plans for me!
In the four years I’ve been doing this race, I have never bothered to stick around for longer than 20 minutes for post race festivities because the walk to the train takes awhile (well, mostly because after 13.1 miles, everything takes awhile), so I usually take my post race photo and leave. My Dad didn’t have any desire to stay around either, so we took our photos, and then made the painful walk back! However, there were an abundance of free drink and snack stations, and I got a full size Gatorade!
It may not have been my best, but dangit I got across that finish line! Here’s to hoping my next go around is more successful. Until then though, I’m going to soak in an epsom salt bath, and awkwardly penguin wobble my way around this week. Hope you all have a great start to the week!
