Hello and happy Monday! Per usual, today I’ve got another race recap to share (I’m always so lost on Monday post ideas if I don’t have a race that weekend). Sunday morning my Dad and I braved the bitter cold (it was like 45 degrees, but you know I complained the whole time), for the Too Cold to Hold 5k! This race offered 5k, 10k, and half marathon routes, but given that January weather is such a gamble in Texas, we opted for the 5k route this year!

In stark contrast to last year’s course, this year there were zero hills, and zero bridges to cross! It was simply just on the road, out and back. Normally I hate out and back courses, but this route was super simple, plus we all had a sun-shiney view of the lake as we ran past White Rock Lake!
I’m not sure if it was because we stood around in the cold for an hour before the race, or if I was just off, but it took me all the way up till mile two before I finally got into my groove. I mentioned it in my Instagram post, but I felt like my bones had been replaced with rusty robot parts, and my body was performing like it was my first time running in weeks, when I had just easily run 5 miles three days before! Not quite sure what was up with me, but my time ended up being 37:49. Ugh.
Given that this race doesn’t have much of a theme (other than it being cold), there wasn’t too much to stick around for after we finished running. My Dad and I grabbed our free muscle milk, and then headed back to the car. However, for anyone who did hang out afterwards, there was live music, and several other vendors on deck for free snacks and giveaways!
Not the most exciting of races, but it was another 5k to log for 2017! Next weekend my Dad and I are running the Hot Chocolate 15k, and I’m sure that race recap will be a lot more exciting than this one (most things can be/are more exciting than this post, let’s be real)!
