Hello and happy Friday! I’m currently gearing up for what will be weekend #457 of rain, so with the exception of maybe some early morning runs before the storms roll in, it looks like I’ll be indoors for the rest of it! I have a couple of new books that I picked up last weekend that I really want to start, so I’ll use the rainy day advantage for those two. I could clean the apartment, or maybe organize the pantry (which currently looks like a grocery store that was looted after a natural disaster) but you and I both know that’s probably not going to happen. Well, before I float away forever thanks to these stupid rains, let’s review some favorites from this week, shall we?
Thanks to Noah’s Arc reboot that is my life (not starring Russell Crowe), the rains have either made it to dangerous to walk to the gym, or too dangerous to drive to yoga. In effort to get a little creative, I picked up an old favorite from college and started doing Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown! I actually picked the DVD copy of it at a Target years ago, but all of our DVDs are currently in a storage box under the bed. Thankfully some kind soul uploaded the workout to Youtube, so I’ve been streaming it to the TV and working out in the living room all week! It’s a 35 minute workout that in Jillian’s words “Utilizes every muscle in the body” and she’s definitely right because I did it two days in a row and now it hurts to just wake up in the morning. I’m going to try to incorporate it into my workout routine every couple of weeks as a refresher, or if I just need someone to yell at me for half an hour.
Confession time. I didn’t finish my travel book for May’s Goodreads challenge. I know! It was my fault for finishing April’s third book so late into May, but I accepted defeat last weekend and decided I’d just start fresh in June for the fiction challenge. I had started Remember Me Like This in April as in between for the humor genres I was reading, but put it back down in May to finish up a travel book (fail). I picked it back up this past weekend and breezed through it, and on Wednesday night I stayed up half an hour past my bedtime to finish it because I couldn’t put it down! If you love a good mystery, or enjoy exploring the dynamics of broken relationships, this is an excellent read. The story follows a family grieving the mysterious kidnapping of their oldest son, Justin, until one day he reappears and the family, while elated to have him back safe and sound, struggles to find balance and ease with assimilating Justin back into the normal routines of life. The end has a shocking twist that I really enjoyed, but what I loved most was how real the story felt. These were just normal people experiencing an extraordinary tragedy, and each of their journeys to return to normalcy (or at least some sense of it) was really compelling.
If you took the time to add up the most used words on this blog, I guarantee you “Trader Joe’s” would be number one, and today I’m adding to the total by raving about their tea. I feel slightly obnoxious raving about tea that literally only has one ingredient, and it’s possible I’m just so blinded by my love for a grocery store that I can’t see straight in any more, but dangit y’all this tea is really good. Peppermint tea is fantastic for a myriad of reasons; upset stomach, heartburn, cold relief, and it even tastes great iced! I’ve been adding a couple of pieces of Sant (talked about this stuff a couple of weeks ago) to my peppermint tea this past week and I really love the balance between the mint and the tartness of the fruit. Also, I try to limit caffeine intake as much as possible (being that I am hyper nervous all of the time, caffeine really doesn’t help the situation) and this tea is 0% caffeinated, which makes me 100% down to drink it all day.
That does it for me this week! I hope you all have an awesome weekend, and hopefully I won’t be blogging live from a rowboat come Monday!
What are some of your favorites from this week?
