Happy day-after-St Patrick’s Day! Hopefully you aren’t too hungover on this Friday. I am not hungover because I did not go out last night (because I’m old and boring), so sadly you won’t be getting any fun stories out of me today. Festivities aside, I’m just happy that this week seemed to whiz right by so I can make way for my big running weekend! Tomorrow morning my dad and I are running the Dash Down Greenville 5k in Dallas (my one Irish contribution to this week), and then Sunday is my Rock N Roll Half Marathon! Also, in exciting running news, earlier this week I registered for the Irving Half Marathon on April 16th! I considered doing the Big D half again this year, but I’m still pretty disappointed with how it was organized, plus I wanted to try a run closer to home. More details to follow soon, but for now let’s review this week’s favorites!
- Fresh Soy Face Cleanser
I used to be under the notion that all facial cleansers were the same. I was a staunch believer that a cleanser was a cleanser and they all did the same exact thing…they cleansed. Well, I was wrong. For about two years now I’ve been alternating between two different cleansers, both of which either did a terrible job of removing makeup, or stripped my face completely dry. Out of soap, and out of patience, I took to Sephora.com for recommendations and stumbled upon the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. A little pricey (a full size 5.1 oz bottle retails at $38), but I was desperate for something new, and something that would get the job done, so I paid through my virtual checkout and anxiously awaited. My purchase arrived late last week, but I still had a few more used out of my old cleanser (can’t be wasteful y’all), so I wasn’t able to use it until this past weekend, but man oh man is it amazing! It works so well at removing makeup, it’s almost not even necessary to use a makeup remover prior to washing your face, but it despite it being powerful, my face never feels tight or dry after using. A little goes a long way, so I’m finding that high price isn’t too much trouble because this full size bottle is going to last me a really long time! It also has a really light earthy-citrusy smell, which I also really enjoy (but strangely enough everyone in the Sephora comments section hated. What’s wrong with you guys??). Needless to say, I think I may have found a new life time favorite!
- Blue Apron Crispy Brown Butter Gnocchi with Meyer Lemon and Brussels Sprouts
New favorite Blue Apron meal alert! Monday night I cooked up (I don’t think this is an actual verb, but work with me here) one of my latest Blue Apron installments, and it was huge hit! This dish featured potato filled gnocchi, Brussels sprouts (who knew it was Brussels and now brussel by the way? My mind is blown), garlic, Meyer lemon, and Parmesan. Jake isn’t a huge fan of greens, but he enjoyed everything else about the dish, but as a Brussels sprouts fan, I can confirm that the greens were delicious. Our excitement was short lived as not even ten minutes after our meal the ceiling in the hallway by our kitchen began to leak, and for a very brief moment we thought it was leaking Freon. I’m just happy that this did not occur while I was cooking, as I’m sure Blue Apron did not call for “pipe condensation” as part of it’s ingredient list.
- Trader Joe’s Ginger Pear White Tea
I meant to feature this on last week’s Friday Finds, but totally forgot! I’ve actually had this tea for a couple of weeks, and it has been my new favorite tea to drink at work. At work I prefer to drink either non-caffeinated or low caffeinated drinks during the day, as too much caffeine makes me an anxious wreck. White tea is low in caffeine, and also scores bonus points for being great for skin and reducing the risk of cancer! I am a fan of ginger, but not when it’s overpowering, and this flavor is very mild, and the pear flavor is light as well. I haven’t tried it yet, but imagine this would also taste amazing an iced tea, so I’ll definitely have to try that soon!
That about wraps it up this week, friends! Look our for two race recaps next week, and let’s just hope I still have functional use of my legs after Sunday. I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you Monday!
