Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and your week is off to a good start. In an effort to take your Monday from 0 to 100, I thought I’d share some fun running jamz today! I posted a playlist this Summer to commemorate National Running Day, but since January is a “bleh” month, I figured some upbeat songs could help put some pep in your step for winter time. I’ve got an eclectic (albeit not consistent whatsoever) mix to share, so let’s get to it!
- Downtown – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Eric Nally, Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, and Grandmaster Caz
I am 100% CERTAIN that the Sugarhill Gang and a Casio keyboard had a baby and it was this song. The song, as well as the video, is a lot of fun, and I love running to it, especially when it gets the Ryan Lewis chorus. If you ever happen to run past me during the chorus I am probably singing it out loud and doing a stupid dance with arms, that at a distance, would probably alarm someone into thinking that I was having uncontrollable spasms. It’s great.
- Smoke Break – Carrie Underwood
The NBC reboot of The Sound of Music will always probably make me feel a little weird about Carrie Underwood, but she and I are both from Oklahoma, so with that I’ll cut her a little slack. This song is great is for people like myself who don’t smoke, but need 2 to 3 minutes of relating to other people who also have had a long day and need some sort of vice to take the edge off. Personally, my vice is a rewatch of The Office, but I don’t always have time to power through nine seasons, so if I’m in a pinch thirty minutes on the treadmill with this song will do the trick.
- Send My Love – Adele
Like anyone else with a pulse and human emotions, I am a huge fan of Adele, and have been loving her latest album. I’m not sure if Adele intended for this song to be my new fave workout jam, but it totally is. It’s upbeat. It’s about some idiot dude that blew it with Adele What more do you need to power through some cardio? Not much else, my friend.
- Fresh Blood – Eels
This was the theme song for The Jinx, so I mainly just like to listen to it while running so I can sharpen my theory about the Kathy Durst appearance, and also because it has a really cool beat.
- Rhinestone Cowboy – Glen Campbell
This song is a three minute long inspirational poster and I love it.
- Girl Talk – Too Deep
Some of the best workout/running jamz are mashups, and if you are into mashups then I highly recommend Girl Talk. Where else can you find KRS One’s “Sound of Da Police”, mixed with Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together”? Nowhere! This song, as most of Girl Talk’s stuff, are just a trashcan punch mix of the most random collections of songs in music, but it just works.
That rounds up this latest installment of Running Jamz! What are some your favorite running and workout songs?
