In the spirit of goals and resolutions season (and holding people accountable via social media), I thought I’d share a fun challenge that I’m taking on for the year 2016! Last year I participated in the 2015 Goodreads Reading Challenge, in an effort to push myself to read more. I track my reads, and save books to read (similar to how you would pin something on Pinterest) using Goodreads, and I love it! Reading has always been my favorite activity, but I wanted to make it more interesting by seeing how many books I could actually rack up in a year. In a dream world I would read all day and set my goal to 100, but reading doesn’t pay the bills (unless you’re in publishing, in which case, congrats!), and I have a job and other things (binge watching HGTV) to do, so I kept it reasonable and set my goal to thirty books for the year. Unfortunately I fell shy of my thirty book goal by just three books, but I’m determined to read ALL the books this year, and by all I mean thirty-five. Much like I have been doing on my Friday Finds posts, I’ll feature my read of the week (this is under the assumption that I can read one book a week, in which case I have to clone myself a few times to get this accomplished).
In an effort to amp up this challenge, I am going to assign myself a different genre for each month! At least one book read that month should adhere to whatever genre is assigned, and I’m going to try assign genres that fit best with the month, like reading a romance novel for Feburary. Extra points if I find book with Fabio on the cover. Here is each month’s genre:
Let me know if you’re taking the Goodreads challenge and what books you’ll be reading this year! Feel free to play along with my genre challenge as well and let me know of any good recommendations! I’ll be checking in each month with my book count, and what I chose for that month’s genre. Happy reading!
