Now that Halloween is over an done with, you may find yourself unsure of what to do with all of your pumpkins. Congratulations on this first world problem of yours, but more importantly, let me share with you a way to recycle that pumpkin into a snack! It takes no longer than 20 minutes, and is the most fun you’ll have with pumpkin guts this year. Let’s get started!
What you’ll need:
- A pumpkin
- A bowl
- An oven preheated to 375 degrees
- A baking sheet
- Olive oil
- Surgical gloves if you want to the pumpkin guts removal process to feel more like a hospital procedure.
How to get started:
First start by carving the top off your pumpkin (a la Ray Liotta in Hannibal) and remove the insides of the pumpkin into a clean bowl.
Once removed, rinse the pumpkin seeds and remains and do your best to separate the seeds from the pumpkin membrane (YUM!). Rinse the seeds again, and pat dry with a paper towel.
After drying the pumpkin seeds, transfer the seeds onto a baking sheet lightly coated with olive oil, spread out the seeds evenly and sprinkle desired amount of salt (or a lot of salt if you’re me and looking to have a heart attack before the age of 30). Pop the baking sheet into the oven and let sit for 15-20 minutes. At the ten minute mark, move or flip your pumpkin seeds to successfully roast the other side.
After the 20 minutes are up, take out the seeds to cool and then enjoy!
For an added bonus, feel free to hang on to your weird pumpkin membrane to enjoy as a face mask earlier. You’ll look a little crazy, but pumpkin is packed with the fancy science stuff (actual term) that assists with skin turnover and boosts collagen! So enjoy your salty snack, and your beautiful face!
