Hey Beatles fans, are you looking for a relatively obscure Halloween costume that won’t break the bank, and will confuse your coworkers and random strangers? Well do I have a deal for you. Look no further than my 2014 Halloween costume, Rocky Raccoon. For a little background, Rocky Raccoon is a song off the Beatles White Album, and based off my interpretation of the song, I’m pretty sure it’s about a dueling gun fight between rodents in the Old West. I really can’t be sure. With that interpretation in mind, I pieced together the most literal version of the song is costume form. If you’d like to do the same, here’s what you’ll need:
- Raccoon ears (I made mine out of black headband, and gluing two triangular pieces of grey and black felt)
- Raccoon makeup (You can go all out, or you can go low budget with some the dark spectrum of the Naked palette you never use)
- One bandanna
- “Western wear for raccoons” (For me this meant a denim vest from AE on top of a black cardigan, cowboy boots borrowed from my dad, black leggings, and a white tunic)
- Patience, because people will think you dressed up as an unidentified cowboy cat.
I took this costume to work where I was met with a lot of confused faces because almost like that scene from Legally Blonde where she shows up in the bunny suit, pretty much myself and like three other people wore costumes. I also wore this to Chipotle (they were giving out free burritos to anyone in a costume), where the girl making my burrito first asked if I was a cat, and then after stating “Rocky Raccoon” she then asked “From Guardians of The Galaxy?” to which I responded by ordering extra guac because they couldn’t charge me for it.
