Hello, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Let’s hear it for being half way done with the month already. I’m pretty sure mentally I still think it’s February, so I have no idea where the year has gone, but as long as it’s getting closer to Autumn and cooler temperatures then I am not going to complain! The humidity this weekend was un-freaking-real, so my cravings for Fall has only intensified. Hopefully wherever you are the weather is a lot more bearable! While I’m melting away over here in Texas, let’s go ahead and recap this weekend before I turn into a puddle!
We were all treated to free sno-cones at work, and my Friday afternoon was kicked off with a strawberry and lemonade treat. I wish this was an every Friday treat, but I doubt my company is about to work that into the budget. Once I got off work I made a quick trip over to the grocery store for a few essentials, and then back home to clean up the apartment before date night! Jake and I went to Alamo Drafthouse to see The Big Sick, and it was pretty good! I don’t know if I was feeling off or what, but I don’t feel like I had as strong of an emotional reaction to it as everybody else. Everyone on Twitter who has seen it has gone on and on about how much it made them cry, but alas, classic robot Mallory felt nothing! Oh well. I did love Kumail Nanjiani, and I could have watched scenes of him and his family all day! Have you seen it yet? If yes, lemme know what you thought of it in the comments!
Jake and I were supposed to go to a kettlebell class on Saturday morning (the same one we went to a few weeks back), but unfortunately it was canceled due to rain, so we instead just made a trip to the gym instead! I wasn’t in the mood to run, so I in lieu of the treadmill I opted for 3.5 miles on the elliptical, and then Jake and I had our own mini kettlebell workout at the end!
After the gym, we cleaned up really quickly, and then went back to Alamo Drafthouse for an anniversary screening of my favorite movie, Batman: Dark Knight! I watch that movie at least once a year, but MAN is it so much better in a theater! The underground chase scene is probably my all time favorite scene from any movie ever, and if there is ever a scene that deserves a giant screen and surround sound, it’s that one. Also, our movie previewed the trailer for Justice League, which I think is the most laughable thing you could show before Dark Knight. (I have an in depth Ben Affleck as Batman rant here if you’re interested my nonsensical ramblings on the subject)
I woke up around 6:30 on Sunday, stepped outside, felt how humid it was, and threw the idea of running outside straight out the window. My Dad offered up the idea of just running at his gym, so we went there and I logged four miles on the track. I had hoped for a 10k so I can get in all my miles for the Whovian Running Club Villains VI Miler, but my legs were so super sore from my (albeit short) kettle bell workout the day before and wanted to keep it relatively easy on my legs. Cut to the drive home when I caught wind of the new Doctor Who announcement, and I was so psyched I swear had I gotten the news before my run I could have gone like ten miles! If you haven’t heard, the 13th Doctor is going to be played by Jodie Whittaker, the very first female doctor! I’m so excited! The comments section on this news is truly abysmal, but I think she will be incredible! I really loved her in Broadchurch, and I’m excited for her approach to the character.
Also, this totally unrelated, but I had to share these two photos from Sunday. The first is the GIANT butterfly in my parent’s screened in porch. I don’t think I have ever seen this big of butterfly up close. My mom has an incredible garden, which attracts lots of tiny butterflies, but I rarely see one this big!
Second, is this ridiculous puppy play date featuring Hannah (my parent’s dog/yellow lab), Brinkleigh (mine and Jake’s dog/the pit/hound/unknown weirdo on the far right), and Stella (our neighbor’s dog/maybe a dingo??). I was trying so hard to get all three to pose for a photo, but this was the best I could do. How pet photographer’s get animals to cooperate for photos is beyond me.
How was your weekend?
