Hello, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! I was hoping that on today’s weekend recap I would officially be able to declare myself a proud owner of a new car, but I’m not quite there yet! It was a nerve-wracking weekend, but I’m thankful that it ended on a positive note with something to look forward to (more on that in a minute) rather than in total despair and starting the new car search all over again!
After finishing up at work, Jake and I switched into workout clothes and headed to the gym for a Friday evening workout. I logged a 5k on the treadmill and followed up with some free weight exercises. We grabbed Chipotle to go on our way home, and then settled in for the evening to watch the men’s figure skating short program! I am very invested in the figure skating competitions, and like everyone else, wish that Adam Rippon was my best friend. I watched him, Nathan Chen (6 QUADS!!!!), and Vincent Zhou, and then concluded the evening with a little new car research before calling it a night.
Rain kept me from heading out for an outdoor run Saturday morning, so instead Jake and I went to the gym and I ran 4 miles on the treadmill and then did a few minutes of squats afterward. We decided on Whole Foods for breakfast, and I loaded up on scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, turkey sausage, and a small side of butternut squash spinach, accompanied by an iced latte with coconut milk.
After getting home and cleaning up, we loaded up Brinkleigh to drop her off at my parent’s house and then head to Subaru dealership so I could buy a new car! My mom has been kind enough to loan me her car for the past week and a half since my Jetta is mostly dead, and I really grew to love her Subaru and decided that I would purchase something for myself. Leading up to the car shopping I had been incredibly nervous and was uncertain as to what I should expect. Would the car salesman be too pushy or make me feel dumb? Was my Jetta even worth anything in regards to a trade in? Would the financing negotiation be a nightmare and would the numbers I had in mind not work out at all? Would I not be able to drive off the lot with a new car that day?
Thankfully only one of those came true, but not in a bad way. The salesman I worked with at the dealership could not have been nicer, or more helpful on breaking everything down for me. To my great surprise, my POS Jetta was worth more than $15 (I was honestly so ready for them to tell me that they started the car and it in randomly caught fire). In the even better news, the financing part was a real breeze and came out to a really close amount to what I had in mind before I walked in the door. The bad news? The color I wanted wasn’t on the lot but would be available Monday (today!). So as I write this on Sunday I am currently without a car, but later today I’ll finally have one!
For the first in probably like four years, I slept in till 10 am! I don’t know if it was because the day before I had been a nervous wreck and exhausted all of my emotional energy, but I was SO tired! It took me forever to start my day, even after coffee, and I didn’t get up and start going till around 1 pm! Jake and I went to the gym and I opted for a 10-minute warmup on the elliptical, followed by 25 minutes on the stair stepper, and then concluding my workout with some core exercises. Once we finished up at the gym, we grabbed our groceries (our Kroger recently reorganized the entire store and it is a waking nightmare), and then picked up sushi as an ultra late lunch. The remainder of my day was spent meal prepping, blogging, and gearing up for the week ahead…and of course, watching more Olympics figure skating. I’m writing this a couple hours before it airs, but I’m hoping that the Shib sibs are able to take gold in ice dancing!
What Olympic sports did you watch this weekend? Have any favorite athletes?
